About Orlyola

Hi! I’m an undergraduate student at the University of Pennsylvania with a strong passion for French and teaching. I grew up speaking French at home in a West African household and have experience tutoring students through French Honor Society, including elementary and middle school children. I've worked with children in many of my extracurriculars, such as being a camp counselor, and am excited to teach more students about French language and culture! I’m a young tutor, and I believe that allows me to bring fun, relatable, and engaging elements into each lesson while creating a comfortable environment where students feel confident learning and making mistakes.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed to make French fun, comfortable, and confidence-building for young learners. I adapt each lesson to the student’s age, French level, learning style, and goals rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.

A typical lesson begins with a quick review of previous material, followed by a new topic or skill. Depending on the student, we may practice through conversation, vocabulary games, reading, pronunciation activities, short writing exercises, songs, media clips, and interactive challenges. I make sure students have opportunities to speak and use French rather than simply memorize rules.

What sets me apart is my personal connection to the language and my experience working with children. As someone from a West African background who grew up speaking French at home, I can share both the language and aspects of Francophone culture. Through my experience as a French Honor Society tutor, I have worked with young students at different levels.

My lessons are best suited for elementary and middle school students, whether they are complete beginners, currently taking French at school, or looking for additional practice and support. My goal is for every student to leave each lesson feeling more confident and excited to learn French!
