About Otis
Hi, I’m a French tutor with over 10 years of experience and a Graduate Certificate in French-English Translation. My background also includes a strong focus on environmental studies and sustainability, which I love bringing into my language lessons. I believe that language learning can be both practical and meaningful, especially when it connects to global challenges. In my lessons, students explore ecological vocabulary, climate change discussions, and real-world environmental topics—all while improving their French. I regularly use articles, podcasts, and videos from Francophone environmental initiatives to deepen understanding and spark conversation. This approach keeps lessons relevant, engaging, and grounded in the issues that matter. I work with globally-minded students and professionals in conservation, environmental science, and international studies who want to use French in meaningful, impactful ways. Whether you’re preparing for a career in sustainability or simply want to engage with green topics in a second language, I tailor each session to your goals. We focus on communication, comprehension, and cultural awareness with purpose. French is more than just a language—it’s a powerful tool for change. Let’s learn together and use French to help shape a more sustainable future.

My French teaching approach is lively, practical, and centered on real-world communication. I focus on helping students speak with confidence, especially in everyday situations. A big part of my method includes active dialogue and interactive practice, which makes the language feel natural and fun. One of my favorite areas to teach is French food culture. We explore culinary terms, how to read menus, discuss recipes, and order confidently in restaurants. Lessons often include role-plays, audio prompts, and vocabulary games to build comfort around food-based conversations. I work well with both academic learners and students preparing for exams, giving them the tools to use French clearly and accurately. At the same time, I support learners who want to enjoy French through culture, travel, and gastronomy. We balance structured learning with fun topics that bring the language to life. Whether you're aiming for fluency or just want to enjoy French dining like a local, I’m here to help. Together, we’ll make your conversations in French as enjoyable as the meals you’ll talk about.
