About Victoria
Took over 20 Honors/AP classes in high school, which constantly challenged me- but that’s the fun of it! I have a younger sister and brother who I have taught, and I have tutored my own classmates too. I coached a rec and a travel softball team and also do private coaching, so I believe I am well equipped to teach subjects I have a good understanding of. I was torn between becoming a teacher or a nurse, so by tutoring while doing nursing school, I can fulfill both of my dream “professions.” The only way to learn is through failing. This sounds cliché and you’ve heard this many times before, but it really is true. You are here for a reason, there is no shame in receiving help in a subject as we are human. No one is perfect at anything and it takes courage to ask for help. I hope to inspire you not to be afraid of failure and mistakes. Silly mistakes want to bring us down, and that’s why they are silly- they can’t. I want to instill perseverance, confidence, and a strong work ethic in my students because if I’ve learned anything from school, it is that there is nothing you can’t do without these three things. Apart from developing skills in a certain subject area, you will learn this too.

About the lesson

- My lessons will last 45 minutes at a time in one subject area.
- I have most experience working with children in elementary/middle school, but have also assisted my peers, so I am not specific to any age group as long as I am teaching at the level of my understanding.
- I understand every student learns in different ways, and I am prepared to adjust to each need.
- I begin with a quick warmup, which may or may not be related to the subject at hand. Then we will go over the material, I will give the student time to review notes/do problems on their own, and then we will regroup.
- I avoid focusing too much on the mistakes. I will explain the correct answer/concept, have the student redo the entire exercise, then continue to build on the mistakes until there are none.
- I will have the student explain the concepts back to me, essentially showing their complete understanding of the material learn.
- Depending on your needs I will adjust. Assistance in homework is very different from teaching a new concept!
- I believe in practicing a skill until you make no mistakes, no matter how hard it is!
