I have two built courses, but I can also build a specific program if needed. I am more than happy to share my experience! So let me know what you may neeed.
My main course is focused on teaching Mexican Art History from a broad scope: understanding the main artists, techniques, styles, and history, but weaving it into the complex system of the art world in Mexico and Worldwide so we can see these artists as international players of a cultural system they helped build.
We review the contemporary players in the art world with each group of artists. We learn about the museums, art galleries, dealers, public institutions, and policies that usually played an important role but got left out from the simplified tale of art history.
My second built course focuses on arts management essentials for emerging artists. The goal is to build a strong platform to start their career. This course also helps Worldwide artists consider Mexico in their practice and see if this may be an interesting option to consider.
I can teach in both English or Spanish.
I'm a Mexican-American art historian with a strong interest in the backstage of the art world and arts management. Thanks to its multitasking nature, I know how to hang, pack, ship, export-import, research, teach, curate, promote, collect, sell, and even pay taxes with artworks when possible.
I started my career as a researcher and registrar in a private art collection, where being part of the team meant that I had to learn about conservation and be a exhibitions' curator for international loans.
I worked briefly for a public museum as curator and art handler, but was called to work in a commercial art gallery in Mexico City. I have been working here for over the past six years and am currently enrolled in Sotheby's MA in Contemporary Art, Markets, and Management with specialization in the Latin American art market.
During the first class, I offer a general panorama. With this, I encourage each student to decide how much time he or she has to learn the subject and specific topics of interest, so I can build accordingly and set an hour goal.
To save a fixed schedule I encourage the payment of multiple hours upfront. Class cancelations or rescheduling are allowed if done 24 hours prior for free, but if canceled during the same day there is an $7 cancellation fee.
