Hi I'm Lucy and I'm a first year science student at the University of Melbourne. I plan to either choose a biology or a maths major but I am still undecided! Last semester I studied Linear algebra and Calculus 2 and loved them.
I come from Oxford in the UK and I am a British-Australian dual citizen. I finished school in England and then spent a 'covid gap year' tutoring maths online from home.
The thing I love about tutoring maths is seeing my younger self in each student. I didn't always love maths. I actually thought it was a bit of a nerdy boy dominated subject in my early teens! This means that when I am teaching I can easily work out why students aren't understanding a certain concept as I might have been in that same position myself 5 years ago.
I hope I can inspire students to change their attitude towards maths and love learning!

I am an experienced tutor who can cater a student's lessons to their specific needs. I spent my gap year in the UK tutoring maths online to students ages 7-16 and loved inspiring students throughout their lockdown online learning. I also have face to face experience home-schooling two kids I babysat.
In the past I've had a few lesson structure variations:
- Student led: (It's in the students hands knowing what they want to cover) older students who know what topics they need to work on can let me know ahead of time and I prepare a lesson to teach/ revise a maths concept.
- Tutor led: (I will work out what we study each week) we can either follow the curriculum if the student doesn't understand current lesson content or do some diagnostic tests to work out which topics they need to revise again. Specifics depend on which year level they are in.
I can set homework if parents would like me to or if I want a student to finish a worksheet I might leave them to finish it alone.
I typically offer hour long lessons but can offer half an hour online lessons to younger children who can't maintain focus for a full hour.

Often I find the first free class really useful to get to know a student and chat to them/ their parent about how we want to approach their learning. We can also try a mini lesson to see if they like my style :)
