About Michael
Originally from Hong Kong, I am a professional violist who was well-trained in both the UK and Hong Kong. I first started playing violin at the age of 7 and obtained ATCL diploma in violin performance before studying my sixth-form in Wells Cathedral School, one of the four Specialist Music Schools in England. Under the tutelage of Catherine Lord, I shifted my focus to viola and that was the time I decided to become a professional musician. After that, I have studied viola with Dr. Gilbert Sak in the University of Hong Kong (Bachelor of Arts (Music Major)) and Richard Crabtree in Trinity Laban Conservatoire (Master of Music).
As a performer, I was a guest violist in City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong and a tutti violist in Hong Kong String Orchestra before relocating to London

I have been full-time teaching violin & viola for 8 years after Master of Music graduation in London, specialised in teaching young musicians from all levels and background. My lessons are designed for each students personally according to their personality, abilities and needs. I strive to be a supportive and encouraging teacher to ensure my pupils love what they are learning and further build up their interest to music. I usually strongly suggest parents to get involved in students’ lessons. Most young musicians with caring parents involved in the whole process of instrumental progressed the most, and more importantly, they are more confident with their playing.
