About Kate

I'm a well qualified teacher and a lifelong lover of language. Most of my work has been in primary schools, where I have worked with children of various ages who needed to learn English after entering an English-speaking school. I've also supported older learners to develop more advanced English skills, both in speaking and in reading and writing.

I have a PGCE, a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) qualification and several years' experience as a teacher and home educator.

About the lesson

I'm a friendly teacher who loves to meet new students and adapt my lessons to suit each learner.

In the first lesson, we'll chat about all sorts of things. With permission I'll record the conversation. Afterwards, I'll make detailed notes about where the learner needs help with grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary or fluency.

Then, I'll use my notes to plan a series of helpful lessons. I'll include lots of games, activities and conversation topics designed specifically to help the individual learner in the areas where they most need to improve.

If the learner is working towards any exams, I'll also take the exam specifications into account when I plan the lessons.

I enjoy working with learners of all ages, from young children to adults. For most learners I recommend a 60 minute session once a week, or twice a week if you want to make faster progress. Very young children may benefit more from two 30 minute sessions each week.

I am happy to work with learners at every level, from beginners to those wanting advanced level English lessons. I have a PGCE (UK teaching qualification) as well as a TEFL certificate for teaching English as a foreign language. I have several years' experience in the classroom working with children of all ages. I also help adults (native English speakers) improve their writing.
