About Nishi

I am a first-year medical student who has been tutoring privately for a year now. I have helped students achieve their small everyday goals whether it be during self-revision or school lessons, as well as having a 100% track record of boosting my students' grades in all the subjects I tutor. I attended one of the top grammar schools in the country and achieved all A*-As at GCSE and 3 As at A level. Alongside my school results, I have experience of the entrance exams required to get into medical school further proving my deep understanding of the subjects I tutor at a much more abstract and detailed level.

About the lesson

I teach students HOW to think rather than what to think. Lateral and critical thinking skills are key skills that will help students to approach any exam question/real-life problem successfully, even in my absence.

My teaching method is based on 3 important steps:

1. Consolidation: I make sure that my students thoroughly understand the concept first. I often draw diagrams, flow charts and mind maps to aid learning.

2. Active recall: I believe that this is the most important step that will guarantee success for all my students. This step includes getting my students to teach me the concept from memory. I live by the rule 'if you can't teach it, you don't understand it well enough'. Depending on the learning style of the student this step may involve the use of flashcards, which will make sure that students can recall all the important points from memory. There is no point in just understanding the concepts if you can't recall the information during the exam.

3. Practice! : This step involves doing lots of exam questions and analyzing the mark scheme to understand what the examiner wants. Reading examiner reports will also help students identify common exam mistakes, which they can hopefully avoid themselves. This step will help students to develop their lateral and critical thinking skills which will enable them to solve problems they may not have encountered before. These two key skills will stay with my students for a lifetime enabling them to achieve success in any field they venture in.
