About Simon
I see driving instruction as a gradual transfer of responsibility. At first, students naturally depend on guidance, reassurance, and reminders. My job is to provide those things while steadily developing their own judgment. As an experienced driver and instructor, I focus on teaching the skills that make independence possible: observation, anticipation, vehicle control, positioning, hazard awareness, defensive driving, and confident decision-making. I don't believe mistakes should embarrass a learner; they are opportunities to understand what happened and improve the next decision. That approach creates a comfortable environment for beginners while still giving experienced drivers room to sharpen their abilities. Whether we're working on manual gear changes, automatic control, busy intersections, highway driving, parking, or larger vehicles, I bring practical experience and calm communication to the process. Ultimately, I want the passenger seat beside you to become unnecessary—not because you were simply taught to pass a test, but because you learned how to think for yourself on the road.

Your first lesson and your tenth lesson shouldn't feel the same. As your ability develops, the challenge should develop with it. Early sessions focus on making the vehicle familiar—steering, braking, acceleration, observation, positioning, and basic road awareness. Once those foundations become dependable, we move into junctions, roundabouts, parking, lane changes, traffic flow, and highway entry. Then comes the bigger shift: learning to anticipate rather than simply react. We practise hazard scanning, defensive positioning, safe following distances, and handling unexpected road situations. Manual learners develop technical control alongside these skills, while automatic learners concentrate on smoothness, awareness, and decision-making. Eventually, I give you more responsibility and fewer instructions. You'll begin planning routes, making independent choices, and managing unfamiliar situations. Whether you're a nervous beginner or an experienced driver seeking refinement, the lesson evolves with your ability. The road gets bigger because your confidence does too.
