About Ivy

I am a singing tutor with over 8 years of teaching experience. I have worked with school students, college goers, and working professionals. Over the years, I have successfully guided 150 to 200 students. Many of my students have cleared graded exams, won school competitions, and built the confidence to perform on stage. My teaching philosophy is simple. I believe every voice has potential. My job is to unlock that potential with patience, encouragement, and clear guidance. I focus on building strong vocal technique while keeping lessons enjoyable and stress-free. I treat each student as an individual. I do not use a one size fits all method. I listen to their goals and tailor every session to fit their needs. Whether you are a beginner or someone looking to refine your skills, I am here to help you grow. I also emphasize the mental aspect of singing. I help students overcome fear and self-doubt. This approach has helped many adults return to singing after years of gap. I am proud of the progress each student makes. Seeing them enjoy their voice and express themselves freely is my biggest reward.

My teaching approach is built on four main pillars: positivity, empathy, critical thinking, and mentorship. I believe that singing is not just about hitting the right notes but about expressing emotion and telling a story. My lessons are tailored to each student's unique voice, goals, and learning pace. I create a safe and encouraging environment where mistakes are seen as steps to growth, not failures. I listen to my students' concerns and frustrations with patience and understanding, ensuring they feel heard and supported throughout their journey. I do not just teach techniques; I teach students how to think about their voice, analyze their own performance, and solve problems independently. This builds confidence and self-reliance. I act as a guide who walks alongside them, celebrating their wins and helping them navigate challenges. My methodology covers a wide range of subjects to make lessons comprehensive and engaging.

Vocal technique forms the foundation of my teaching. I focus on proper breath support, posture, vocal placement, and resonance. I use exercises that strengthen the voice without causing strain, helping students expand their range and improve tone quality. Ear training is another key component. I incorporate pitch recognition, interval singing, and scale exercises to develop a keen musical ear. This helps students sing in tune and harmonize effectively. Music theory is woven into every lesson. I explain how scales, chords, and rhythms work so students understand the structure behind the music they sing. This knowledge empowers them to learn new pieces faster and with deeper understanding. Performance skills are also a major focus. I guide students on stage presence, emotional delivery, and connecting with an audience. We work on overcoming stage fright and building the mental strength needed to perform with confidence.

I also include song interpretation and storytelling. I help students dive into the lyrics and meaning of a song, teaching them how to use dynamics, phrasing, and tone color to convey the intended emotion. This makes their performances more authentic and moving. Sight-reading is another subject I prioritize. I use progressive exercises to help students read sheet music fluently, which opens up more opportunities for them in choirs, auditions, and professional settings. Vocal health is non-negotiable in my studio. I educate students on warm-ups, cool-downs, hydration, and recognizing signs of vocal fatigue to prevent injury. I also incorporate style and genre exploration. Whether it is classical, pop, jazz, musical theater, or R&B, I help students find their niche while keeping their technique solid. Diction and articulation are addressed to ensure clarity in lyrics, especially in foreign languages like Italian, French, or Latin.

My lessons are structured but flexible. Each session begins with a physical and vocal warm-up, followed by technical exercises targeting specific areas of improvement. The bulk of the lesson is spent on repertoire, where we apply techniques to actual songs. I end each session with a review and set clear, achievable goals for the next week. I also use recording and playback during lessons to help students hear themselves objectively and track their progress. I assign practice routines that are realistic and effective, respecting my students' time and other commitments. I regularly assess progress and adjust my methods to suit changing needs. I encourage students to set personal milestones and celebrate every achievement, big or small. Ultimately, my goal is to produce not just skilled singers but thoughtful, resilient artists who love their craft and trust their voice.
