About Sophie
Hi! I’m a former Head of Chemistry with extensive experience teaching science from KS3 to A Level. I now work full-time as an online tutor, specialising in GCSE Chemistry and Biology and A Level Chemistry across AQA, Edexcel, and OCR exam boards. I love tutoring because it gives me the chance to work one-to-one with students, helping them build confidence, understand tricky topics, and see real progress. I’m particularly passionate about supporting students who find chemistry challenging or who are studying it as a requirement for university, helping them not only succeed but also enjoy learning. I’m calm, patient, and focused on making lessons clear and engaging. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy science-related reading, keeping up to date with new ways to make learning interactive and enjoyable, and swimming. I aim to make every session productive, supportive, and tailored to each student’s needs, so they leave lessons feeling capable and motivated.

I specialise in KS3 Science, GCSE Chemistry and Biology, and A Level Chemistry (AQA, Edexcel, and OCR), drawing on my experience as a former Head of Chemistry. I love tutoring because it allows me to focus on each student’s individual needs and help them gain both confidence and skills — especially in areas they find challenging or don’t initially enjoy. My lessons are structured to build knowledge first, making sure students understand key concepts before moving on to exam-style questions. Together, we break down questions, practise applying knowledge, and develop strategies to maximise marks. I use a variety of interactive tools, including online whiteboards, shared documents, and quizzes, to keep lessons engaging and ensure students are actively practising and consolidating their learning. Each session is tailored to the student’s goals and pace, whether that’s improving exam technique, revising for tests, or building a deeper understanding of the subject. Students leave lessons feeling more confident, capable, and prepared to succeed.
