As noted above, I am an Early Childhood teacher, who is certified to teach students from Kindergarten to third grade. It's great to take time to get to know one another when first meeting, so that the student is comfortable with me. I employ many strategies and like to make learning fun, incorporating games when possible. I do a lot of questioning, first of all, for the student to show understanding of what was taught. I also like to use open-ended questions to allow for higher level thinking. Students get a chance to practice what was taught with me, and then do it independently. I assess students as I first begin working with them, and then periodically to see if progress has been made.
I am a teacher who has taught Kindergarten, First and Second Grades in Maryland and South Carolina. This is my 26th year of teaching. I spent nineteen of those years in first grade! I have taught over 500 students (!) and have kept in touch with many of them, even attending graduations! Some of my former students have gone on to become teachers, lawyers, police officers and military personnel.
I graduated with honors obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree from UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) where I majored in Early Childhood Education). I later obtained a Master of Arts degree from American Intercontinental University and graduated with a perfect 4.0.
My greatest achievement was obtaining National Board Certification in 2006 as an Early Childhood Generalist. This is a ten year certification. I renewed this certification again in 2015. I am most proud of this because only 1% of teachers even attempt this grueling process.
