About Erin
I am a business owner & homeschool parent, with graduate level training in Spanish language, literature, and education. I traveled extensively through Mexico, Central America, and Spain, and lived abroad multiple times. My favorite teaching tools are culture, wit, and enthusiasm. With language as your center, you can truly go in all directions. The key to learning a language is a mix of the basics such as rigorous practice and memory work, fun and play, along with helping a student discover their intrinsic motivators. Often that means learning a student first and *then* re-tooling lessons for individuals as they progress to target their interests and needs.

My goal is to help students by bridging the gap between their interests and their learning goal. It’s often the case that learning material feels sort of irrelevant, dry, or that a class session is a waste. That is unnecessary— language is dynamic and incredibly interesting — as long as it serves the user. Rescuing language learning from drudgery requires a dynamic practice— you need a great teacher as a guide. Otherwise you can do most of it yourself— just use an app or buy a textbook. An instructor must add something, must earn their students by providing something more.
First class— looks like ‘discovery’. Learn the student and their needs, background, etc. Skill assessment and goal setting. I need to hear about you to be able to guide you. After that— it’s my turn to attempt to engage you as a student.
I will tailor classes to meet your interests, find online resources for you, help you with course study, and do everything I can to keep you moving toward your learning goal.
