About Lelalelei

I’m Coach Lela, a dedicated volleyball coach and an active player, proudly representing American Samoa on the National Volleyball Team. As a former collegiate athlete on an athletic scholarship, I bring a wealth of firsthand experience to my coaching. Over the past five years, I’ve had the privilege of coaching at various levels, including junior college, high school, middle school, and club volleyball. My commitment to the sport extends beyond the court—I make it a priority to stay current in my profession by attending the AVCA convention annually and traveling nationwide for elite coaching summits.

In addition to my coaching experience, I’m also a licensed mental health therapist specializing in athlete mental performance. I combine my expertise in mental health with my knowledge of sports to help athletes build the mental tools they need for a competitive edge. My approach focuses on developing confidence, mental resilience, and the ability to stay composed under pressure. My goal is to ensure that my players not only succeed on the court but also grow as individuals.

Training Method & Techniques
My mental performance training is designed specifically for athletes who want to take their game to the next level. I use proven sports psychology techniques like visualization, goal setting, and mental resilience to help athletes stay focused and composed under pressure. Every session is customized to the athlete’s unique needs, addressing both performance on the field and mental challenges off the field, such as stress management and confidence-building. The focus is on creating a strong, adaptable mindset to support peak athletic performance.

A Typical Training Plan
Each session follows a structured plan, ensuring athletes get the tools they need to perform mentally at their best:

Check-In: We begin by discussing recent performances, any challenges faced, and identifying areas for mental improvement.
New Mental Skill Introduction: I introduce key mental techniques, like visualization, mindfulness, or focus drills, and explain how they apply to the athlete’s sport.
Skill Practice: We actively practice these techniques through tailored exercises, such as guided imagery for high-pressure scenarios or relaxation techniques for pre-game nerves.
Application: The athlete is coached on how to apply these skills in practice, competition, and everyday life. This includes setting realistic goals and mental preparation strategies.
Wrap-Up & Feedback: We close with a reflection on progress and areas to work on, along with a mental "game plan" for upcoming practices or competitions.
