I say this with great passion:

There is something schools often fail to teach:

Sociology is about structurally understanding frameworks and using synoptic thinking, not just memorising loads of facts, names or narratives to perfection!!

During my final exams, I at times used only 1-2 key sociologists/ terms in my 10 markers and 3-5 key sociologists/ terms even in my 30 markers, and still gained at least 80%+ per paper, showing this holds true.

Why is this distinction so important?

Unlike in some other humanities, in sociology you cannot just memorise essay plans and expect to be able to blurt them during the exam; questions are often hyper-specific and may be on topics you haven’t even thought to cover thoroughly!

Once the framework is down, securing grades becomes something that feels almost guaranteed, due to a strong, familiar and repeatable framework, rather than it being dependent on “knowledge-based confidence” during the exam!

Sociological concepts exist as patterns, and you should be able to understand them to the point where you’re be able to identify them all around you, as it is the study of society after all!

About the lesson

How I teach:

Rather than just simply reaffirming what is clearly stated in textbooks, I will use in-depth approaches based on your current understanding and ideas, to ensure that you feel confident in applying and utilising theories and develop a strong, personal sociological mode of critical thought and synoptic thinking.

I am happy to explain in depth any theories, concepts etc that don’t seem to click or don’t feel easily applicable to other areas of knowledge.

I am also happy to help with exam practice and marking answers, as well as spending lessons going through not only how to improve in accordance to the mark scheme, but also how to use personal strengths or ideas to your advantage to impress examiners.

LESSON STRUCTURE:

My lessons can extend from 30 minutes to a couple hours based on needs, and I am able to cover any topic regardless of exam board.

I can help with last minute knowledge gaps or, If given time in advance, I can curate a perfect, personalised lesson for you.

I aim to provide a personal, in depth learning experience to those who are planning on having several or routinely lessons, with learning plans and goals mapped specifically for you and your academic aims.

My credentials:
I am a long time enthusiast for sociology, having achieved A* in GCSEs and A Levels using alternative methods to the repetitive nature of school lessons, and have helped countless students as a student myself, in increasing their grades and identifying gaps.

Whether you are an A grade student hoping to push your grade to that A*, or just starting out and want aid in familiarising yourself with new concepts, I hope to make sociology feel like the fun, insightful and deeply stimulating subject that it is!
