About James
I am a full-time Private Tutor with previous experience in SEN support and teaching Maths in the classroom in a supporting role. I am not a teacher, supporting students 1 to 1, teaching them 1 to 1, is far more rewarding, adapting to their level, seeing the moment when things click, having individual students tell me after results day how I had helped them achieve the grade they wanted is incredibly rewarding than teaching fixed, prescribed lessons to larger classes could ever be. I have a Master's degree in Physics and a Bachelor's degree in Physics and Astrophysics. Including modules that focused on public outreach and communicating physics to people of all levels of understanding. My SEN support saw me spending most of my time in GCSE Maths classrooms, helping students to manage their educational needs and improve their Mathematical skills.

I offer 1 hour lessons for students taking Maths or Physics at GCSE Level, both Foundation or Higher. I have over 3 years of experience working 1 to 1 with SEN students as well as non-SEN students. I find teaching works best for people when the teacher's focus is on them alone or in small groups, and can see where the individual student is at and adapt their teaching to that student, rather than having to teach unadaptable lesson plans to larger and larger classes. I do like to push students with tricky questions, but in a safe environment, this is how the human brain learns, by getting things wrong and restructuring its connections to learn and adapt. But I always go to where the student is at, provide encouragement and have a laugh with a student where I can. Lessons start with covering the most fundamental skills of the subject, to ensure that there are no barriers to entry for more advanced ones (Learning Compound Interest is much more difficult if you're struggling with percentages.), as well as providing some new tips and tricks for these things you're unlikely to find in classrooms. Lessons are priced at £30 an hour, with an additional £5 for marking outside of lessons if requested. Please message me to request lessons as I work during specific time slots to allow for breaks.
