About Jo
I am a former primary school assistant headteacher, currently between jobs as I head towards a new role in initial teacher training. I therefore have plenty of availability in autumn 2026 to offer expert maths tuition for children heading towards their 11+ exams OR students taking the November GCSE resits.
Between 2021 and 2024, I taught at a leading West London day school as a Year 4-6 maths specialist teacher. I therefore have a strong understanding of the 11+ landscape and am confident in preparing children for the mathematical demands of these exams.
I also have strong experience supporting students working at the Grade 3/4 borderline. My calm, patient approach and expertise in how to teach the fundamental concepts around KS2/early KS3 level has helped several students achieve the Grade 4/C they needed.
Although exam preparation is key, I take care to keep tutoring patient and positive, emphasising that it's great to spend time improving at maths anyway, with benefits far beyond upcoming tests. I have significant experience teaching students who find maths particularly challenging and have had good success in rebuilding knocked confidence and reigniting enjoyment of maths where it might have been lost.

- I am a highly experienced maths teacher, with a primary maths specialist PGCE from UCL Institute of Education. I have been tutoring for over 15 years, from EYFS to higher-tier GCSE. I have previously taught 11+ maths in a top West London day school. I have published a book on maths education and have presented at various national education conferences.
- My tutoring approach is positive and patient, supporting pupils at any level of maths to make great progress. I am available for autumn term 2026 to support pupils heading towards 11+ exams.
- 60 minute lessons in person (depending on location) or 30, 45 or 60 minutes online, to fit with your busy schedule. Online lessons via video call, using a range of industry-leading websites and virtual learning platforms to support.
