About Alexander
Hi, my name is Alex :) I'm a second year geology student at the University of Oxford, studying for a masters of Earth Science.
I understand the importance of a good tutor, I've been tutored multiple times through my education and through that I know it can be instrumental for success. I've assisted in outreach projects and am used to discussing scientific topics with peers, helping to make complex ideas accessible. From this I'm confident in my ability to make maths accessible, I want to make it clear to my students that maths is not about reading a question and instantly knowing the answer, its about the process and the skills you can develop from it, you can only learn by getting things wrong! I've got a very flexible schedule and can fit in extra lessons if necessary.

I enjoy keeping my lesson structure flexible so that each students needs can be tailored for, I find guiding students through problems they have chosen themselves as focus points, and then opening up the teaching to complimentary subjects has been the best way to reinforce learning. I think the best way to teach STEM is to keep it as broad and multidisciplinary as possible, concepts in physics and chemistry compliment each other, all underpinned by maths. Lesson templates typically follow the structure of going through any work that students bring to the lesson, followed by a topic I feel would compliment and reinforce the start of the lesson. If applicable I often like to take the time to check up on topics from a few weeks ago, in order to keep it fresh in my students minds.
