Hi, I’m Ariel! I’m a professional writer, editor, and college application coach with over ten years of experience helping students tell their stories with confidence and clarity. I hold a B.A. in English with Honors and a minor in Medieval History from UC Berkeley, and I’m currently pursuing my master’s degree at Columbia University. Before tutoring, I worked in the publishing industry, guiding authors through the editing process and shaping powerful, polished narratives. I now bring that same care and insight to my work with students, helping them craft standout college essays, refine their writing, and approach the admissions process with less stress and more direction. As a college application tutor, I help students take ownership of their story and present it powerfully and authentically. My goal is to demystify the application process and guide students through each step with structure, support, and strategy. Whether they’re overwhelmed by essay prompts or unsure how to frame their experiences, I work with students to build confidence and clarity.
A typical session begins with identifying immediate goals—this might include brainstorming a personal statement, revising a supplemental essay, or polishing the Common App activities section. I ask thoughtful questions that help students reflect on their values and experiences, then guide them in shaping that material into compelling, well-structured writing, using a variety of proven techniques and tools. My feedback is specific and actionable, and I work collaboratively with students to bring out their strongest voice.
What sets me apart is my editorial background and results-driven approach. I have over ten years of experience in the publishing industry, helping professional authors craft engaging and polished narratives. I hold a B.A. in English with Honors from UC Berkeley, a minor in Medieval History, and am currently pursuing a master’s degree at Columbia University. My students have gone on to attend top undergraduate and graduate programs, including medical school, law school, and competitive universities across the country.
These lessons are ideal for high school juniors and seniors preparing college applications, as well as graduate school applicants working on personal statements and supplemental essays. I also support students developing writing portfolios or applying to honors programs and scholarships. All sessions are remote and tailored to each student’s timeline and goals.
