About Riya

Hi! My name is Riya, and I graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. I currently work as a Quality Engineer at Eaton, where I use math, science, and problem-solving every day to analyze complex systems and improve manufacturing processes.

I also interned for 2 summers at California Steel Industries, a Nucor company and part of one of the largest steel producers in the United States. During my time there, I used physics, math, and engineering principles daily to help solve factory problems and make the steel mill safer and more efficient.

As someone who was a full-time student not too long ago, I understand the challenges students face when learning difficult subjects. While I have graduated from the classroom, I have not graduated from learning. I now see myself as a lifelong learner, and I hope to help students build that same confidence and curiosity in themselves.

About the lesson

Students learn best when they feel they are in a safe place: safe to ask questions, safe to make mistakes, and safe to not understand something right away. Once they feel safe, they begin to get curious, and curiosity is one of the most powerful tools a student can develop. It becomes their intrinsic fuel to learn more and learn deeper.

My goal is to be that safe place for my students and to be as patient, gentle, and encouraging as they need while I teach them new concepts. I also love connecting classroom topics to real-life applications so students do not feel detached from what they are learning. When students can see the bridge between school and real life, they begin to understand why learning matters and take it seriously with a greater sense of purpose.
