About Kameryn

Known for her radiant tone and agile vocalism, she has captivated audiences across the United States, with appearances at venues including The Morgan Library in New York City, the Tanglewood Music Center, and the Boston Early Music Festival. She is also a current ensemble vocalist with the GRAMMY-nominated chamber choir True Concord, based in Tucson, Arizona and has also appeared with The Newberry Consort (Chicago), one of the nation’s leading early music ensembles. Kameryn has performed a wide range of operatic roles, bringing both dramatic depth and musical nuance to her portrayals. Her credits include Damigelle and Dancer in La Liberazione di Ruggiero dall’isola d’Alcina, the Squirrel in The Cricket Recovers, Despina in Così fan tutte, Miss Jessel in The Turn of the Screw, and Belinda in Dido & Aeneas among others. She has performed under the baton of notable conductors such as Thomas Adès, Stephen Lord, James Bagwell, as well as Eric Holtan and David Smith. Her artistry has been shaped by guidance from leading vocal coaches and teachers including Ellen Hargis, Dawn Upshaw, Dina Toliver, Kayo Iwama, Margo Garrett, and Mark Markham. With a distinctive voice and a passion for storytelling through song, Kameryn Lueng continues to forge a compelling path in both traditional and innovative vocal performance.

I approach singing as a serious, expressive art form, and I work best with students who are self-motivated and curious. For me, the text is the most important aspect of singing. Whether it's an art song, aria, pop song, or a Broadway hit, I expect singers to understand the dramatic and poetic context of what they are performing. If you're singing an aria, you should have read the entire libretto before coming to me. I also read full librettos in preparation for our coaching so that we can have a meaningful conversation about the emotional stakes of the piece. I am an artist first and foremost, and I aim to guide students into becoming the artists they are meant to be. While I do not teach vocal technique, I will always offer feedback when I notice a struggle. I will also offer diction coaching in French, German, Italian, Spanish, and English as well as artistic in service of a clearer communication. I do not play piano, so the student will either provide a pianist (or other instrumentalist), or be able to sing a cappella.
