About Omayma

Hi! My name's Omayma and I am a University student studying MSc Cancer. I understand how tough some subjects and chapters can be, so I'm here to give a helping hand and provide you with whatever you need so you can leave each session confident. I like to find out the preferred learning styles of my tutees because I understand everyone is different, so we can work on the best way for you. I will be taking the first and last 5 minutes of the session to talk about what we found difficult, what we are now confident in and what we need to do for next session. Teaching is something I've done before, not only tutoring my younger siblings and friends but also in a professional setting. I'd like to gain more experience tutoring different subjects I am strong in, and go on a journey of learning with my tutees!

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I became interested in Science and Maths quite early because I loved understanding why things happen — not just memorising facts, as well as solving puzzles and calculating answers. That interest grew stronger once I studied BSc (Hons) Biochemistry and then completed an MSc in Cancer, where I saw how powerful scientific thinking is in real life.
I got into private tutoring because I realised many students struggle not because they’re “bad” at the subject, but because they haven’t been taught in a way that makes sense to them or resonates with them. Tutoring lets me personalise explanations, build confidence, and help students actually enjoy learning again, ultimately creating a relationship and teamwork between the student and myself.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach Maths and Science up to A Level (and English up to KS2) as well as Arabic language from beginner all the way to A Level. What I love most in Science is helping students connect ideas — for example, linking enzymes, cells, and genetics to real-world health and disease. In Maths, I enjoy making topics feel structured and predictable, especially algebra, problem-solving, and exam technique. The topics students often find hardest (and therefore we spend extra time on) are usually things like multi-step calculations, tricky worded questions, and topics that require strong foundations. I don’t dislike them — I just know they can feel overwhelming, so I break them down into small, manageable steps until they click. In terms of Arabic, it is a beautiful and complex language, and I embark on that journey with my students, expanding their linguistic abilities and opportunities in the world!
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes — I had teachers who were calm, clear, and patient, and they made a huge difference. The best teachers I had didn’t make you feel embarrassed for not knowing something; they made you feel safe to ask questions. That’s exactly the kind of tutor I aim to be for my students.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs more than subject knowledge. The main qualities are:

    - Patience and empathy (students learn best when they feel comfortable)

    - Clear explanations (simple steps, no rushing)

    - Adaptability (every student learns differently)

    - Structure and consistency (so progress is steady and measurable)

    - Encouragement + honesty (building confidence while still challenging the student)

Most importantly, a good tutor helps the student become more independent over time.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One thing I learned early on is that confidence changes everything. I remember a time when I understood a topic in class but froze when I saw it in an exam question because it looked “different.” That experience is why I focus a lot on exam technique and showing students that questions often look harder than they are. Once a student learns how to break down a question, they stop feeling stuck — and their marks improve quickly.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

For me, the biggest challenge was when topics became heavy on detail — especially in Science — because it’s easy to feel like you have to memorise everything. Over time I learned how to study smarter by organising content into themes, using active recall, and practising exam questions early.
That’s something I teach my students too: understanding first, then using the right study method so revision doesn’t feel stressful or endless.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My biggest passion is helping students feel capable and calm in subjects that used to intimidate them. I genuinely enjoy the moment a student says, “Ohhh, I get it now.” I also love the real-world side of Science — linking what we learn in class to how the body works and how disease is treated — because it makes learning feel meaningful, not just academic. Maths becomes fun for the student as they reach the correct answers, and Arabic becomes an achievement and communication tool.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

I’m a Superprof because I combine strong subject knowledge with a supportive, structured teaching style. I plan lessons carefully, I explain things clearly, and I focus on building confidence as well as improving grades. I also take progress seriously — I track weak areas, improve exam technique, and make sure every lesson has a purpose so students can see real results.
