About Javier
My love and passion for visual art extends to my childhood. Through drawing and painting I was able to focus my imagination on creating images of places and things that existed vividly in my mind. However, it was through an extended art education that I learned how visual art is necessary and fundamental to human history, culture and communication. Studying art at California Institute of the arts, then at UC Irvine, helped to open my young mind to the symbolic nature of our reality. Although art and its meaning is highly subjective, the language with which it speaks can be learned, analyzed and constructed. I have been teaching art for over 15 years at the college level. My philosophy of teaching integrates open dialogue with hands on practice. As a teacher I am there to guide and learn from you as well.

Today's visual artists are more than great craftsmen and craftswomen. If you want to make an impact with your art, you will have to understand how the form relates to the content. Working together we will explore the fundamentals of 2d and 3d forms, by choosing a medium that you have a passion for. All projects will emphasize material technique as the foundation of the artworks language. Post studio critique will also accompany the process, so as to develop a sense of critical thinking. Art history will also serve as the context for understanding innovative approaches and meaning.
