About Melody
I am an experienced tutor who comes from a family of educators. I am a graduate of Rutgers University, New Brunswick (B.A. Music and Linguistics, 2005) and Columbia University in the City of New York (M.A., Philosophy, 2008). I currently work full time in Marketing Insights and Data Analytics in Consumer Healthcare and enjoy tutoring part time.
I have both taught and tutored for 12 years, and I have 2 years of Music Education coursework experience from Rutgers University, as well as 1 year of student teaching experience and 16 years of contributing to corporate client and internal training programs. I have experience tutoring in English Writing, Reading, Spanish Writing, Reading, Music, and Algebra. I have previously taught private clarinet lessons for 12 years and English as a Second Language to native Spanish speakers for 2 years. I have also previously taught GRE and SAT Test Prep for 2 years.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends, going on adventures with my dog, snuggling my cat, learning local history, attending concerts, exploring new restaurants, dressing up, traveling to mostly both warm and culturally interesting locations, pet sitting, reading both non-fiction and thrillers, decorating, crafting, dancing, swimming, art, singing, and paddle boarding.
I am thrilled to help new students achieve their educational goals. I believe in the Socratic method of teaching because engagement confirms understanding. This method helps elevate students beyond rote memorization to truly understanding the concepts. I look forward to working with you!
