About Astrid

I have taught six classes in the University of Arizona Writing Program and English Department as the Instructor of Record, such as: Composition, English 102: Research and Rhetoric, English 209: Intro to Poetry, and English 210: Intro to Fiction, and created original syllabi for each course. I've been a tutor for more than ten years, and a teacher for more than five. I've provided feedback for thousands of essays, many of which went on to be published in academic journals and presented at conferences. We'll work together to figure out a lesson plan that suits your needs and goals, and you can count on my methods to support your dreams.

About the lesson

Creating classroom and mentorship environments that facilitate structured growth of critical analysis and self-expression is core to my teaching philosophy. This means an emphasis on a welcoming space where students feel comfortable asking questions and breaking down complex tasks into manageable sessions. I have taught multiple workshops and courses focusing on career development milestones such as editing CVs, cover letters, and learning how to navigate the silent social aspects of professional networking.

I also use a low-stakes, growth-based approach to teaching! Sometimes I'll give you a writing assignment based on an Spongebob episode, to teach you revision. Sometimes we'll brainstorm together and I'll have you write a word vomit paragraph afterwards. My methods have proven results: acceptances into top 10 colleges and graduate programs, improved grades and test scores. That doesn't mean learning can't be fun!
