About Kirste
Hello! I am a professional artist and piano instructor, and graduate of Berklee College of Music, where I earned my degree in Music Composition for Film, TV, and Games with highest honors. Music has been a lifelong journey for me, beginning when I started playing piano at age 7 with a Juilliard alumna. I was writing my own songs and pieces before I had my first keyboard, and my musical background later expanded into ensemble performance, multiple instruments, and composition.
Growing up, I played clarinet in multiple ensembles, as well as keys and bass in rock bands, performing in a variety of settings including venues throughout New Jersey, church services, open mics, and fundraisers. I also have several years of professional teaching experience, including about four years running my own teaching studio in New Jersey and about three years teaching at a local music studio in metro Atlanta.
As a composer, I especially enjoy writing for orchestra and scoring, as well as the challenge of matching music to a mood, story, or scene. I love both the creative and technical sides of the process, from developing a small musical idea into melodies, countermelodies, and harmonies to notating, orchestrating, and producing a complete piece. My Berklee background has given me experience in music theory, composition, notation, orchestration, scoring, and production, and I am happy to share these areas with students who are interested in exploring them.
As a professional visual artist and art teacher, I also enjoy bringing creativity and visual thinking into my work with students when it suits their interests and learning style. Some students may love exploring composition and creative ideas, while others may simply want to focus on technique, reading, theory, and playing the music they enjoy. Both are equally welcome, and I am happy to support students wherever their interests and goals lead.
My teaching is grounded in patience, empathy, and the idea that progress comes before perfection. I have experience teaching students ages 3 to 72, including neurodivergent and special needs learners, and I tailor my approach to the individual. My goal is to provide students with a strong musical foundation while helping them develop confidence, independence, and their own voice.
Above all, I want to share the same joy, love, and meaningful connection to music that my mentors gave me. I am grateful to have built a life around music and the arts, and I look forward to helping my students discover what music can become in their own lives.

Hello! I’m a piano instructor and graduate of Berklee College of Music, where I earned my degree in Music Composition for Film, TV, and Games. I have experience teaching students ages 3 to 72, and have also worked with neurodivergent and special needs learners. My teacher taught me that music should come from the heart, and that lesson has stayed with me throughout my life. I want my students to develop strong skills while also finding their own voice, confidence, and joy in making music.
I often use trusted method books to build strong technique, reading, and musical foundations. As students discover their interests, we can also explore classical repertoire, favorite songs, film and game soundtracks, and other music that inspires them.
Everyone is an individual, not a slot. Each student learns differently, so I adapt my approach to the individual. If something isn’t clicking, I find another way to explain it that leads to success rather than simply repeating myself. Whether a student is looking for patience or is eager for a faster pace and a challenge, I’m happy to meet them there. My approach is progress over perfection, and no one is ever a burden.
For students who want to dive deeper into musical expression, I can also incorporate music theory, composition, notation, orchestration, scoring, and production from my Berklee background.
It brings me joy to give my students the same connection to music that my teacher gave me, while supporting their dreams, building their confidence and independence, and helping them grow into well-rounded musicians. I’m grateful to share what I’ve learned and loved with others, and to be able to experience each student’s growth.

Free Introductory Meeting (30 minutes)
Our first 30 minutes are free and are a chance for us to meet and get to know each other before beginning regular lessons. We can talk about your musical experience, goals, interests, and what you'd like to get out of lessons, along with any questions or practical details. It also gives me a chance to learn more about you and how I can best tailor your lessons to your needs. For in-person lessons, I ask that we meet virtually first before scheduling lessons at my home. Online students are welcome to begin lessons without a prior meeting.
My Regular Rate
My regular rate is $44 for a 30-minute lesson, held once each week at a set time. This comes out to $176 for a standard 4-week month. While my primary listing shows my 30-minute rate, I also offer full 60-minute lessons ($88 each) for students who prefer longer sessions.
Superprof Lesson Packages
Because Superprof lists packages in 5-hour and 10-hour increments, these may look different from how regular lessons are scheduled. A 5-hour package ($220) represents 5 of my weekly 30-minute lessons, while a 10-hour package ($440) represents 10 weekly 30-minute lessons.
