About Lewis

As unoriginal as it may sound, I want to make physics fun for the people I'm teaching. As well as this, I made a number of mistakes whilst trying to learn physics, and so I want to make sure other students don't make those same mistakes! I want to know where students are getting stuck with certain problems because, chances are, I or one of my colleagues have gotten stuck in a very similar way. Identifying WHY students are having difficulties with something is fundamental getting them to learn more effectively.

Physics can be a rather difficult subject due to its heavy use of maths. As well as this, some branches of physics contain elements that are not easy to conceptualise if read straight from a book. I'm looking to teach physics in a way that breaks down problems in as simple a way as possible, and then build on the students understanding from there. From my experience, many people have gotten good at solving complex problems in physics, but have had trouble with their fundamental understandings of how the thing they are solving works. I want to teach students not only how to solve physics problems, but why the methods used are appropriate, so that they build on their intuition and problem solving skills - Something that is essential in the field of physics!
