About Rith

As a Johns Hopkins University graduate with a degree in Economics and minors in Applied Mathematics & Statistics and Business, I understand that success in mathematics comes from developing strong problem-solving skills and not just simply memorizing formulas.

Throughout my academic and professional career, I've applied mathematics to real-world challenges in statistics, economics, data analysis, and quantitative modeling. These experiences have strengthened my ability to break down complex concepts into clear, logical steps that students can understand and apply with confidence.

My goal as a tutor is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence at their own pace. I tailor every lesson to the individual student, adapting my teaching style to match their learning preferences and academic goals. Whether we're preparing for an upcoming exam, improving classroom performance, or mastering difficult concepts, I focus on ensuring students truly understand the material rather than relying on memorization.

I work with middle school, high school, and college students in subjects including Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability, Statistics, and introductory Economics. I also provide preparation for standardized exams such as the SAT and ACT mathematics sections.

I pride myself on being patient, organized, and reliable. My lessons are structured, engaging, and goal-oriented, with regular opportunities for guided practice and feedback. Above all, I want every student to leave each session with greater confidence, stronger analytical skills, and the belief that they are capable of succeeding in mathematics.

I believe that every student is capable of succeeding in mathematics when concepts are taught in a way that matches how they learn. Rather than focusing on memorizing formulas, I help students understand the reasoning behind each concept so they can confidently solve unfamiliar problems on their own.

Every lesson begins by identifying the student's current understanding and any misconceptions. Once I know where opportunities for improvement are, I break complex topics into smaller, manageable steps and explain each idea using intuitive examples before introducing more challenging problems.

I use a structured "Explain → Demonstrate → Practice → Reflect" approach:

Explain the underlying concept and why it works.
Demonstrate several example problems while verbalizing my thought process.
Practice together with gradually decreasing guidance until the student can solve problems independently.
Reflect on mistakes to reinforce understanding and build confidence.

Instead of simply correcting incorrect answers, I encourage students to explain their reasoning. This helps identify conceptual gaps while developing stronger problem-solving skills.

A typical 60-minute lesson follows this structure:

5–10 minutes: Review previous material and answer lingering questions.
15–20 minutes: Introduce a new concept with visual explanations and real-world examples.
20–25 minutes: Work through progressively challenging practice problems together.
5–10 minutes: Summarize key takeaways, discuss common mistakes, and create a plan for independent practice before the next session.

Throughout the lesson, I adapt the pace based on the student's confidence and understanding rather than following a rigid schedule.

As a Johns Hopkins University graduate with a background in Economics and minors in Applied Mathematics & Statistics and Business, I'm confident in my ability to share my passion towards mathematics with your student and connect abstract mathematical concepts to practical applications.

Students don't just learn how to solve equations—they learn why mathematics matters and how analytical thinking applies to finance, economics, data science, engineering, and everyday decision-making.

I also emphasize building confidence. Many students struggle because they've been told they're "not math people." My goal is to replace that identity with one built on logical reasoning and consistent progress.

I work with students across a wide range of levels, including:

Middle school and high school mathematics
Algebra I & II
Geometry
Trigonometry
Pre-Calculus
AP Calculus AB/BC
College Calculus
Linear Algebra
Introductory Statistics and Probability
Economics and quantitative methods
SAT, ACT, and college entrance exam mathematics

Whether a student is trying to improve grades, prepare for an important exam, strengthen fundamentals, or challenge themselves with advanced coursework, I tailor each lesson to their individual goals, learning style, and pace.
