About Amy
I graduated from Keuka College earning my Bachelor’s Degree in Unified Elementary Education. I have many years of teaching experience working with small groups of students in kindergarten through fifth grade to meet their goals for math, reading, writing, and increasing their word recognition, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. I enjoy building students’ self-confidence and motivation in learning to read, write, and solve math equations. I have implemented in school districts the Carbo Reading Program and utilized the Wilson Reading System to teach the structure of language to students. I have also worked with small groups of students to improve their mathematical skills by utilizing Touch Math for addition and subtraction, and the area model for multiplication and division.

What sets me apart from other tutors is I have my initial teaching Certificate in both K-5 Elementary and Special Education. I have had many years of experience teaching small groups of students to improve their reading, writing, and math.
For my first session with students, I get to know both the student and the parent or guardian. I believe a rapport and bond needs to be created between the student, parent or guardian, and tutor. After spending some time getting to know the student the remainder of the session will be devoted to benchmark assessments based on what the parent feels are the areas of weakness which help me create lessons around their needs.
