About SPYRIDON
I have been preparing Greek students for their exams for entrance in our universities for the last four years (both Greek and Latin needed). I have also partnered with a palaeography institute and worked with manuscripts, mostly consisting of the Psalter or John Damascene (11th-13th centuries). I have had also international students.
My method of teaching is as follows: elementary grammar and vocabulary at first, as well as simplified texts for understanding the aforementioned concepts. After that, we proceed with simpler Koine and Attic like Polybius and the Septuagint, or if the student wishes, Xenophon and Aristotle. Every snippet or larger chunk of text we examine comes with each own vocabulary and syntactical notices in order for the student to gradually absorb evermore complex structures. After that, we eventually get into Plato, Lucian, and the Rhetoricians. But if someone is more attuned to poetry, we substitute our readings with selections from the Palatine (Greek) Anthology of epigrammatic poetry at first, then some Homer/Hesiod/Methomeric authors. Every bit of text is of course discussed in class, and the student takes a sizable portion for homework. My method of choice is the one with which I personally learned two classical languages (biblical Hebrew-Latin): extensive reading and syntactical analysis, with the help of an experienced tutor.

Dear Friends,
Is it not important to read the Gospel in Greek? Is it not important to read the Septuagint in its original language? Do we want not to be acquainted with the vivid, the structured, the wild, the sublime, the stunning aspect of the ancient tongues?
I am a Greek native and I just finished my degree in classical languages in Athens. I also am enamored with Late Antique pagan and Christian literature. I will be glad to accompany each and every one of you in your journey. I offer tutoring in Koine, Classical, Homeric Greek, as well as Latin.
My emphasis will be on reading comprehension. We will progress level by level by first understanding some basic concepts in Greek or Latin grammar and vocabulary through simpler texts and graded readers. As we keep going forward, we will adjust our texts according to the student's needs and wants.
