About Joelle
I am a singer-songwriter, jazz vocalist, and bandleader with 7+ years of experience as a professional musician. My debut album is set for release this year, and I have performed all over New York City with my band. I have also performed both my original music and jazz standards across Paris and Amsterdam. I have taught over 50 students how to sing and compose their own music. When I was starting out as a singer I was very shy and struggled greatly with feeling confident on stage. I was awarded a merit scholarship to attend The New School as a jazz vocalist. During my time as a student I learned from so many incredible mentors and professors who inspired me to believe in myself. They helped me to become a confident and technically proficient singer; I want to do the same for my students. I have been praised for my approach to teaching and my ability to help students feel comfortable in our lessons to express themselves, to make mistakes and to learn from them. I am passionate about helping students navigate their artistic and technical growth.

As a teacher, I prioritize artistry. I build my curriculum around the student's artistic identity. I choose repertoire that engages the student creatively and challenges them technically. Learning music should be both a fun and informative experience. My typical vocal lesson begins with a few minutes of breath work and a 15-20 minute vocal warm-up to improve technique. The remainder of the lesson is dedicated to building song repertoire, working on song interpretation, breath support, and stage presence. In a songwriting lesson, the majority of the lesson is dedicated to workshopping new material. Depending on the student's goal as a songwriter, we listen to songs together that inspire the student, work on music theory, and try to uncover the student's individual artistic voice as a composer. What sets me apart as a teacher is my ability to help a student find their own unique artistic voice. My goal is to help the student feel more confident in their technical and creative abilities, and to help them navigate who they are as an artist. My lessons are for all levels.
