About Romily

I am currently a student at the University of Cambridge studying on the Cambridge Graduate Course in Medicine. Throughout my education and employment, I have gained a number of skills that I believe are required to be a successful tutor. Importantly, I feel that I have the necessary knowledge to tutor mathematics, chemistry and biology up to GCSE level. My degree in Natural Sciences allowed me to continue studying parts of Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Physics I enjoy most to degree level, whilst my more recent pre-clinical teaching has reinforced and extended my knowledge.

I have sat exams every year since 2014, therefore in this time have tried and refined various revision techniques which I believe places me in a strong position to advise on improving exam results through revision techniques. I am a highly organised individual and will be able to pass on these skills to whoever I tutor.

About the lesson

I believe that it is important that each session is tailored to the individual. Sessions will begin with a brief introduction to the topic and a task which will allow me to gauge the current working level and to establish strengths and weaknesses in the area. My experience as a tutor allows me to make quick, informed decisions about how to adapt the session in order to achieve maximum progress. I always make sure that I have read and understood the relevant exam board specification to ensure that I deliver the information and skills required for exam success.

I strongly feel that engagement, encouragement and enjoyment are essential for acquiring, understanding and retaining new skills and knowledge. Therefore, my sessions will be interactive and include progressive tasks allowing application and practice. I try to make my tutees comfortable in my sessions through reassurance and communication, with us both asking questions throughout the session - I am ready to explain things in different ways until it is understood!
