Basic algebra lessons usually cover the foundations of working with numbers and symbols. You start by learning about variables, which are letters that stand for unknown values, and how to build expressions and equations with them. From there, you practice solving equations step by step, often by isolating the variable. A big part of algebra is understanding the order of operations (PEMDAS) so you know which calculations to do first. You also learn to combine like terms to simplify expressions, and eventually apply these skills to word problems, where everyday situations are translated into equations. Altogether, these topics build the core skills needed to move into more advanced math.
