About Eliza

I have been tutoring steadily for nearly a year and I have taught around six students long-term during this time.

All of my students have gained confidence in reading English, explaining that my instructions to read certain short newspaper articles helped push them from their comfort zone but they were surprised by how well they understood them.

Many students improved writing skills by going back to basics of sentence structure and punctuation.

A few students were very comfortable speaking to me on a one-to-one basis and felt that with my support they were more capable of using English daily with people they didn't know. One student had initially been very nervous and shy, which caused them to drop out of a college course but after a few months of working together and improving, they decided to return to the course because of my support.

As for listening, all my students had moved into Scotland and so had already been exposed to the Scottish accent, however they informed me that my accent was more understandable than others!

About the lesson

I have a Master of Arts degree in Hispanic Studies, a C1 qualification in Italian, and I hold two TEFL certificates: 120 hour course and 40 hour online specialist course.

I am offering one-to-one online or in person lessons to adults 18+ who wish to improve or learn English as a foreign language and I can adapt lessons to specific vocations, work, or interests.

Upon first contact I ask students to let me know their own aims and goals they want to achieve and I tailor lessons to their needs. However, for all students I usually focus on revising and learning grammar with workbook questions, depending on available materials. For further improvements I ask students to write short essays, read newspaper articles and perform presentations based on an agreed topic.

I am friendly and can put people at ease. Nerves are normal and it is more than okay to make mistakes, this is the only way we can learn a language!
