About Cuomao

Hi I have two-years experience doing one to one Mandarin tutoring. I have a masters degree in Linguistics and am very interested in Language acquisition and bilingualism.
I used to work as an intern teaching assistant in one of China’s biggest Language teaching institutes when I was at University. I spent most of my free time there and helped those kids aged from 12 to 18 to pass English as a foreign language test so they can study abroad. I enjoyed working there and enjoyed helping them. The most rewarding part is that I got to build connections with each one of them. I got to know them as individuals and bond with them. The feeling of being close with them and being helpful on their way to improve themselves really brought me a sense of achievement. Meanwhile, I worked with parents as well. To keep them well informed with the progress their kids were making and help them understand how we should facilitate kids so they can achieve what they were aimed at. It helped my communication and people skills a great deal.
In my personal education experiences. There were teachers who kindled my heart. Those who gave me so much care and hope. I feel endlessly grateful for them. I understand what a great deal of influence can an educator have upon a kid.
Not until 2018, the year I went to Kathmandu, that I understand education on a deeper level.I went to teach in this nunnery up on a mountain. The nuns there are little girls who were sent by their parents because they can’t afford to raise them. The youngest one was eight years old and the oldest one was 15 years old. They were thrilled by my appearance since the day I got there. I had lessons with them, played games with them, and we live and eat together. I spent a month with them. For them, someone who came from a more exciting part of the world is so full of new things and stuff that they don’t know. Their English was basic, so our communication was pretty simple. But they are so eager for knowledge. I taught English and Math to them. They are so involved and engaged in every single lesson. I felt like I didn’t just pass on how to use the language but also how the world was like outside the nunnery, outside Nepal. I had the most amazing time there together with them. I got to understand that a teacher can be someone who opens the door which leads to a different world. Or someone who cracks opens the window so some can have a peek of what’s the bigger word like.
Since I came to UK I have had Mandarin teaching experience to teenagers age from 9 to 18. I'm quite talkative and good with kids.
