About Ivan
I have been tutoring since 2016 in Philadelphia and have had many students return who need help in classes after the ones they initially met me in; I also have students specifically request me for tutoring due to the easy explanations and analogies I have used when tutoring them. They are often very happy upon seeing how much clarity they got from working with me over the course of the semester. What may have begun as an anxiety-riddled semester finished with them being more confident in their abilities, doing better in class, and them having the ability to help themselves use resources such as the learning lab, library, textbook, office hours, and online educational resources that are authorized by the professor.

My approach to teaching mathematics is rooted in the belief that every student can succeed when given the right support, tools, and encouragement. Through nearly a decade of tutoring at Community College of Philadelphia, I’ve seen firsthand how individualized attention and active engagement can turn self-doubt into confidence, and confusion into clarity. Mathematics can often feel intimidating or abstract to students, especially those who may not see themselves as 'mathematics people'. My role as an educator is to demystify the subject by connecting mathematical concepts to real-world applications, breaking problems down into manageable steps, and fostering a classroom environment where questions are not only welcomed but encouraged. I emphasize student-centered learning, using a mix of traditional methods and digital tools to meet learners where they are. I regularly assess where students need reinforcement and guide them toward resources such as workshops or structured study routines. As a tutor, I have seen significant grade improvements among students who engage consistently; I aim to replicate and expand that success in the classroom. I believe in building relationships that support student growth not just academically but personally. By showing genuine care and investing time in each student’s learning process, I strive to empower them to take ownership of their education and to see mathematics not as a hurdle, but as a skill they can master and apply. Ultimately, my goal is to help students leave the classroom with a stronger sense of self-efficacy, critical thinking abilities, and appreciation for the role of mathematics in their lives and careers.
