My style is a journey we would go through together. I would use a hand held approach to show step by step on how each stages are achieved. that way you would gradually get used to the terminologies, techniques and alternatives leading to the solutions.
In a short time, you would be more confident in yourself and self taught. I always say to my students "Maths is sweet".
