About Timothy
I'm a biochemistry graduate from the University of Warwick and a Masters in Oncology from the University of Nottingham. I've over 4 years of private tutoring experience teaching maths and science up to GCSE. I have 3+ years of giving private lessons to students in both maths and science up to A level and GCSE respectively. My previous students range in both age and ability from a primary school student with special educational needs learning the fundamental mathematical principles to high achieving A level and GCSE students looking to achieve the top A/A* grades. I have taught over 6 students across Nottingham from both public and private schools. I have taught several GCSE students maths all of which achieved a B grade or above in the higher paper. I helped to improve a student who was retaking his GCSE maths from a C to an A. I also have experience as a student-teacher while at university volunteering at a primary special educational needs school and teaching maths to a class of 30+ year 8 students at Mtwara Tech in Tanzania for 6 weeks over the summer.

My lessons are interactive and student-focused, using a variety of methods and resources based on the unique learning style that best suits the individual student. From flashcards to visual/video learning aids. The lessons are not one-dimensional as I encourage students not only to practise questions that they might see in a test or exam but to walk through their thought process and reasoning behind their answer, increasing their confidence in the subject to the point that they are able to teach it to others. I usually like to evaluate the student at the start of the lesson to see what they currently know about the subject. This doesn't only allow us to focus on the areas that the students need to work on the most, it also encourages the student to actively recall information and apply it to a given question. 10-15 minutes before the end of a lesson the student has the opportunity to summarise some of the key concepts covered in the lesson and ask any questions to help them fill in the gaps. I like to give practice questions that they work on during the week to go over at the start of the next lesson. I believe strongly about evidence-based techniques of learning new concepts that involve both active recall and spaced repetition. Where students actively and frequently challenge themselves to recall and answer questions on concepts that they are learning. If you would like to learn more about these two high-yield study techniques you can check out the video below.

Tim is good in transferring maths knowledge to students both in primary, secondary and advanced education. He is patience and kind in nurturing his students according to their abilities.
I know 3 of his previous students that achieved high score in the GCSE and progressed in their further education.Timothy was really helpful and patient while tutoring me. And was always ready to explain or go over concepts with more detail thar I didn’t get first time around.
