About Rick
What is engaged in learning to play piano is not only your brain, but your fingers as well.
In other words, the fingers sense the navigation of the keys, while the brain learns the physics (mathematics) of music - i.e. the duration of notes, the time signature, the key, etc.
Navigating your hand across the keys is a tactile learning experience. Learning the notes on the page is a celebral experience.
I teach a method of learning through your fingers as well as through your brain. It's sort of like engaging the right brain and the left brain at different times. But as you learn to play piano, it eventually ends up being both at the same time.
Piano lessons, to me, are not dull and academic. They are fun and engaging. I am an easy-going teacher, with an intuitive sense of what each individual student needs. Beginners - children or adults - learn with encouragement, not pressure. I am good at explaining and illustrating in a way that each student can understand (and enjoy). I do this by sensing the way the student thinks. Some are highly cerebral, others are feeling-based. It doesn't matter, because I am familier with both.
I have learned classical music since I was a child of 5. Later in my 20's and 30's I also engaged in playing pop tunes). I will enjoy teaching you either.

What is engaged in learning to play piano is not only your brain, but your fingers as well. In other words, the fingers sense the navigation the keys. While the brain works on the mathematics of music - i.e. the duration of notes, the clefs, the time signature, the key, etc. The fingers learn the feel of the keys, the pressure on the keys which is dictated by the feel of the music - the distance traveled when going from one key to another, or one octave to another. These are physically inherent things that the brain need not burdened with, but that the fingers learn rather well, to the point of you not having to look at the keys while playing.
I teach a method of learning through your fingers as well as through your brain. It's sort of like engaging the right brain or the left brain. Usually it ends up being both.
