About Ben

Hello! I’m Ben, a secondary school business studies teacher with over five years of tutoring experience in Mathematics, Business Studies, and Economics. I studied Education at the University of Oxford and Economics at King’s College London, and I enjoy helping students build confidence, deepen their understanding, and achieve their academic goals.

Outside the classroom, I love spending time hiking in the countryside, playing the piano, and enjoying a good science-fiction film. I’m also a lifelong fan of the Star Wars movies, so I’m always happy to discuss whether the original trilogy really is the best!

I aim to create a friendly, supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and challenging themselves. Whether you’re aiming for top grades, preparing for exams, or simply looking to improve your confidence in a subject, I’d be delighted to help.

About the lesson

My lessons are tailored to the individual student, identifying areas of strength and weakness before developing a personalised programme of study. I make use of the latest educational research and place a strong emphasis on developing genuine understanding rather than simply memorising methods, helping students become independent and confident learners.

My teaching approach combines direct instruction, worked examples, guided practice, and exam-style questions. As an examiner, I have an in-depth understanding of what exam boards are looking for and can help students develop effective exam technique alongside their subject knowledge. Lessons are engaging, supportive, and paced appropriately to challenge students while ensuring they experience regular success.

Lessons are typically one hour in length. Longer sessions can be arranged if required.

I hold an Education degree from the University of Oxford and an Economics degree from King’s College London. I am also an examiner for AQA and have over five years of experience tutoring Mathematics, Physics, and Economics. During this time, I have helped students improve their grades, prepare for examinations, and gain places at competitive schools and universities. I also work full time as a mathematics teacher and business teacher at a UK secondary school.

I offer tuition in Mathematics, Business Studies, and Economics from secondary school level through to A Level. My lessons are suitable for a wide range of students, including those seeking to improve confidence, achieve top grades, prepare for GCSE or A Level examinations, or gain support with challenging topics.
