About Audrey

I hold a teacher certification in French and English K-12 in Texas and Pennsylvania. I earned a B.A. in French Language and Literature and an M. Ed in Language and Literacy. I've lived in Strasbourg and in Lyon, France, where I studied French at Sciences Po Lyon.

For the past five years, I have been a public school French teacher, first teaching elementary school and then high school. I now live in New York with my partner, a native French speaker, and work as a nanny for Francophone families.

Despite now being fluent, I did not start learning French until I was 18. I am also the first person in my family to become bilingual. I have a unique perspective on the persistence it takes to learn a foreign language outside of childhood, as well as the challenges American-English speakers face when learning French.

About the lesson

My tutoring is rooted in a student-centered, comprehensible input approach, meaning I prioritize real understanding, communication, and confidence over rote memorization.

In a typical lesson, I tailor everything to the learner’s goals—whether that’s building a strong foundation, preparing for exams, or improving conversational fluency. Lessons often include a mix of meaningful input (stories, conversation, and real-life language use) alongside targeted support with grammar when needed. For intermediate learners, I frequently incorporate the book Pause-Cafe: French in Review - Moving Toward Fluency to provide structure and grammar refreshes.

What sets me apart is my ability to build strong, supportive relationships with my students and adapt quickly to their learning styles. I’m happy to lead structured lessons or offer relaxed, guided conversation practice—whatever will help you progress most effectively!
