About Samuel

Hi there! My name is Sam. I'm a freelance English and Spanish tutor who developed a passion for language teaching over the last year, following an experience as an English Language Assistant in two schools in Spain.

I find teaching language incredibly rewarding, being able to engage and encourage students to see visible results is an amazing feeling. Having had experience being both the learner (studying Spanish at university) and the teacher, I take pride in creating a safe and secure learning environment for every student's language skills to thrive in.

So whether you need English or Spanish tutoring, (conversational, academic, or business,) you can count on me to provide well-planned, enthusiastic, and specialised lessons tailored to your goals.

About the lesson

I have experience working in two primary schools in Lanzarote, Spain, as an English Language Assistant. As well as this I have experience in private English tutoring with multiple clients in Lanzarote. I have a Bachelor's degree as a Master of Spanish from the University of Edinburgh and, having lived in Spain for two years (first in Madrid and then in Lanzarote), I am highly proficient in the Spanish language, in both a conversational and professional environment. I understand cultural nuances between Spanish and English and so have excellent localisation skills, allowing me to teach my students how to communicate in a natural and fluid manner in their target language. My classes are aimed at students of all ages, and typically last one hour.

I aim to create a comfortable and inviting learning environment in my lessons. I like to keep the lesson dynamic and engaging through the use of various teaching formats; language games, vocab memory games, role-play scenarios, a mix of written and verbal tasks. I pride myself on first and foremost creating a personal connection with my clients as I can say from experience, as both a teacher and student of language, that one of the most important aspects of language learning is creating a space in which students feel comfortable to make mistakes, without condemnation from their teacher. Remember, making mistakes is the most effective way to learn!

Another aspect of my teaching which I pride myself in is the understanding that the most effective learning methods vary from student to student. Depending on the client, I create tailor-made lesson plans focusing on visual, auditory, reading/writing, or kinaesthetic teaching methods to best suit the student's most effective learning style.
