About David

Hi, I am an experienced graduate student with over 5 years of teaching and tutoring experience. For three years as an undergraduate I worked as a school hired tutor for math and physics classes. I worked for two years as a physics instructor when working towards my Master's degree, and currently I'm an instructor in mathematics while working towards receiving my PhD in computational mathematics. I love teaching and working through problems with students while trying to engage their interests in the material. Speaking from personal experience, many students who don't perform outstandingly well in their mathematics courses are by no means bad at math, and often times require alternative or abstract approaches to understanding the material. I think I am more than prepared and qualified to find out the best ways for you or your child to learn their material in the ways that most suit them.

My teaching methods are using a question answer dialogue between students when working through explicit problems. If they get stuck, I probe at why they're confused and what's getting in the way of them making a next step. I found that this efficiently and effectively gets at many of the reasons that students struggle with solving math problems.

Usually a lesson consists of us solving problems together and explaining the steps taken to solve that problem. I find that whoever I'm tutoring, whether it's an 8th grader or a college student, this approach works wonderfully well.
