Graduate student offering lessons in math and statistics in San Antonio with 8 years of tutoring and mentoring experience.

Methodology

Being a teacher at heart, my focus is to help students develop a deep understanding of what they are learning, as opposed to simply replicating calculations. Although the school system typically requires topics to be taught on a strict schedule, individualized lessons allow extra time to resolve gaps in understanding before moving to more advanced concepts. Because of this, my lessons often incorporate an evaluation of where students currently stand, as well as ample practice, before moving on to additional techniques. Especially in the field of mathematics, I understand the stress that can eventually evolve from a single topic of misunderstanding. My goal is to ensure that students minimize this stress if at all possible, and carry a positive attitude to their future experiences with the subject.

Background

I am a graduate student in the process of obtaining my PhD. in Educational Psychology - Quantitative Methods from the University of Texas at Austin. In addition to teaching courses and developing curriculum at during my academic career, I also have years of private tutoring experience, primarily in the field of mathematics (from elementary grade levels up through graduate level courses).
