About Clare

Hi there! My name is Clare, I am an Australian cellist with a passion to teach music to all ages as well as performing regularly in London.

I am passionate about sharing my love of music and cello playing with others, and teaching lies at the very heart of my instrumental practice.

Over the past several years, I have taught privately as well as on summer music courses, working with a wide range of students, from complete beginners to adults learning a new hobby! My teaching methods evolve and change depending on who I teach as I always try to personalise them to each student's needs, aspirations and their individuality. The goal I desire at the end of each lesson is hoping that each student finishes the lesson inspired and building their love for the instrument. I hope that each lesson stays with them beyond the time we spend together.

Many of my students have taken on ABRSM exams and always achieve excellent results and feedback. I studied joint principal cello and piano whilst at the Royal College of Music and always play piano accompaniment for my students in their school concerts or examinations. It always brings me immense joy to be able to play alongside them as it not only makes it more fun, it fills me with warmth knowing we can play music together in a positive, curious and creative environment.

About the lesson

My lessons are always friendly, fun and adaptable personalised to the needs and individuality of each student.

With younger students I always aim to make each lesson engaging and supportive, evoking curiosity, confidence and musical awareness whilst striving to slowly build musical understanding and awareness to what they see and hear.

As students become more experienced and comfortable I always enjoy playing alongside them on both cello and piano to create the real sensation of playing music together and feeling the accomplishments of each achievement! I believe in teaching in a way that encourages students to open their ears, minds and hearts to playing music as something to truly enjoy.

I tailor the progress of each student depending on the goal and aspirations for playing the cello. I strive to always have a proper foundation in my teaching to ground us whilst keeping each lesson warm and light-hearted, adapting for the pace of each student.
