About Jon
Hello! I am a scientific professional with a bachelor's degree in chemistry (minor in physics) and a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry with a focus on nanomaterials and electrochemistry. Over the years I've led close to 100 students through undergraduate-level course content related to general, physical, inorganic and materials chemistry. I have also tutored numerous high school students in science and mathematics preparing for entry into college or university. More recently, I've gained 3 years of experience in the not-for-profit sector managing interdisciplinary research and national-level scholarship programs, and would be happy to provide mentorship or coaching for students looking to transition to the workplace.

I approach teaching with a very open-ended and empathetic mind-set. Each student is different in their goals and interests, and as such I like to work closely with students individually to make sure their tutoring experience is tailored to their needs. Getting comfortable with practice problems and feeling confident preparing for and writing exams is a critical part of success in STEM fields, while also relating course content to contemporary research discoveries and technologies.

Details
Tutoring sessions can be done in person or remotely/virtually, depending on student preference and following local, provincial and federal public health guidelines. For group tutoring sessions (two or more students), please inquire about discounted rates. Unless there is an emergency, cancellations made within 24 hours or less will be charged the full amount for the lesson (which would need to be received before any subsequent sessions can take place. The first lesson is always free to give a chance for the student to see if it’s a good fit and for me to get to know the student’s goals and focus areas.
