When I tutor my students, I first like to test what they know and observe what I feel is holding them back from reaching their full potential. Many times, it’s hard to decipher for ourselves what our weaknesses are exactly and what is making it difficult for us to succeed. I will break down what appears to be the root of your problem and help you tackle it head-on.
For example, when it comes to learning Spanish, you may know that you struggle with vocabulary, but the why behind it is what I will address to help you in the long-run. Are you having trouble associating the word with the meaning? Can you connect it to a word/concept/expression you’re familiar with in your own language? Do you fully understand what and when each verb conjugation/tense is used? When it comes to language, the best way to reach the level of proficiency you desire is to understand the rules of the language and why such rules exist. Even if it’s just getting through a single activity or homework, understanding it through and through is absolutely critical so that you will no longer struggle with the topic in the future and become a master at it.
I've learned that practice truly does make perfect (or close enough), and once you have succeeded in the basics, which is the "understanding" aspect, we will go through many different examples and practice problems and I will work with you until you’re able to create them on your own! This for me is what tells me you have mastered the topic and it necessitates flexibility both from me and you as a student, where I will adjust my approach to help you learn until we find one that fits. I'm not here to just help you with a single assignment or prepare for just a test. In the process, I want to help you achieve a level of understanding that will help you exceed even your own expectations!
I am a recent graduate from Emory University with a BS in Anthropology and Human Biology in addition to a BA in Spanish. I was also on the pre-medical track and am currently going through this application cycle for medical schools. One of the things I love to do the most is to share my knowledge with others, and teaching others is a part of this. I have been tutoring and helping students since I was in high school, starting with Math and Spanish, and later on teaching English to non-native speakers, such as refugees and migrants, both locally and abroad. I have been studying Spanish for 10 years now, have studied abroad in Spain, and have reached a near-fluency in the language and received many awards from the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Emory. I helped students with their Spanish language since high school and absolutely love any opportunity to apply and share this beautiful language. Lately, I’ve mostly focused on tutoring elementary and high school level kids with their schooling given the remote learning environments making it more difficult to get needed help from teachers. I have also been mentoring and providing tips to my friends for their MCAT prep as I took it a few months ago and scored in the 98th percentile, and many have seen great improvement in their scores a result.
Spanish 3/advanced level will be $18-20/hr based on the level. I am willing to provie in-home lessons if masks are worn and COVID precautions are taken. Additionally, if appointment is cancelled less than 12 hours in advance, unless it is due to an emergency/urgent matter, there will be a $5 fee. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns about the information above. I am very understanding and flexible and want to give you the most optimal learning experience. These are conditions that have worked very well for me and my students in the past and I will mantain them unless you have specific circumstances.

Yasmeen and I have been classmates since elementary school. Throughout those years, she has always shown so much discipline and and commitment to her studies as well as helping others with theirs. She is patient, kind, and will work very hard for you as your teacher. She is practically a native in Spanish even though she only started learning later in her school years. I couldn't recommend her enough :)
Yasmeen is one of the best teachers I had. She's attentive, detailed, and very good at explaining things in a way that makes you truly understand the problem at hand, but also the greater concept. She really knows the content at hand and has amazing qualifications as an Emory Grad. I recommend her because she truly cares about you understanding the knowledge and will find different methods to explain something until you get a real understanding. She is also excellent at following up and checking in with her students to make sure they are still on track. I love Yasmeen's teaching style and can always count on her when I am feeling lost with content.
