About James
Hello and welcome! My name is Jim, and I’m a professional photographer with extensive experience in both digital and analog processes—particularly darkroom photography. Over the years, I have honed my craft in a variety of darkroom environments, developing a deep understanding of film processing, printmaking, and the tangible artistry that happens under the safelight. From classic black-and-white film to more experimental darkroom techniques, my hands-on approach and passion for the craft ensure that each student learns not just the “how” but also the “why” behind every step. In my workshops, I focus on building a strong foundation in core darkroom skills—everything from proper film handling and chemical mixing to precise burning and dodging techniques—while also incorporating time-tested principles of composition and storytelling. Having guided students of all levels, from absolute beginners to advanced film enthusiasts, I tailor my teaching to match your unique goals and pace. My aim is to help you gain the confidence and expertise needed to craft visually striking prints that capture the essence of your artistic vision. If you’re eager to unlock the magic of light, chemistry, and paper, I invite you to join me on this creative journey as we explore the wonderful world of darkroom photography together.
