About Mohamed

Throughout my teaching career, I have developed a deep appreciation for the power of language and literature in shaping young minds. I strive to foster a love for reading, writing, and critical thinking in my students by designing dynamic lesson plans that cater to their diverse needs and learning styles. By incorporating a variety of teaching strategies, such as group discussions, multimedia presentations, and hands-on activities, I aim to make the learning process enjoyable and meaningful for every student.

One of my strengths as an English teacher is my ability to establish a positive and inclusive classroom culture. I believe in creating a safe space where students feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and ideas, and where mutual respect and empathy are valued. By fostering a supportive learning environment, I have witnessed students' confidence soar and their academic performance improves significantly.

In addition to my teaching experience, I hold a BA degree in English literature from Iben Zohr University, where I developed a strong foundation in literary analysis, communication skills, and pedagogical techniques. I am also well-versed in integrating technology into the classroom, leveraging educational software and online resources to enhance student engagement and facilitate personalized learning

There are plenty of techniques that I have learned over the last few years which I am going to share with you in this article some of which I learned from my old teachers, others in some online courses and others in websites searching. Some techniques worked for me fine while others did not serve my purpose. Well, let me start with the first technique which is based on body language as it is the essential part that students analyze and see at first. I always face my students and never give them my back even when I am writing on the board which I rarely do as I always assign someone in the class to do that for me in order to keep an eye on my students and watch their behaviors since most of the noise happens when a teacher gives his back to students. I also move around the class when guiding my students or when I want to check their work. Besides, I speak loudly and clearly so that students at the back can hear me as well as get everyone’s attention and when someone misbehaves I only give them an angry look to show them how annoyed I am without having to shout and lose my energy. Secondly, drilling and repetition which I discussed in the Audio Lingual approach by having my students memorize a list of expressions, phrases, and idioms that are used a lot by native speakers and coming back to them at a later time to refresh their memories of the new learned vocabulary. Thirdly, elaboration which means more explanation and clarification of a word or a lesson since some students understand quicker than others that is why I always check if all of my students understood, if not I repeat and elaborate on ideas about the lesson in a clearer and simpler way. Fourthly, the PPP strategy means Presenting the lesson and explaining it first to the students, then giving them some time to Practice it by giving examples and some exercises to be done under my guidance, and finally Production where students have to depend on themselves without my help to answers exercises related to the taught lesson. Firstly, teacher talk which I used to maximize in the past, but now I try to make my students active learners by making them talk and practice the language with me and their classmates, doing presentations, preparing dialogues along with extracurricular tasks that involve doing certain projects. Sixthly, preparing beforehand for my classes by designing lesson plans so that I don’t get lost in the class. Honestly, I did not use to devise lesson plans when I first started my career as a teacher which made my teaching unprepared and out of place, worse yet when I get lost not knowing what lesson to do or how to do it made me feel ashamed of myself. Seventhly, playing games in the classroom brings so much fun to students to break the strictness and seriousness of teaching and showing that playful side in me which students like as I don’t want my students to feel bored, that’s why, I sometimes bring interesting games to the class so that students can have a great time. Eighthly, praising and punishing, means that good behaviors from students are praised while bad ones are undesired and punished in some instances for the purpose of not being repeated again in the future. Last but not least, asking questions is another powerful strategy that I use more often to push my students to talk in English starting with yes / no questions to test their understanding of my question to open questions where students have to discuss and give their opinion about a certain situation. Briefly, these are some of the strategies I regularly use in the class depending on the class and situation.
