About Basel

I finished school in 2020, achieving a score of 43/45. Afterwards, I started university at The London School of Economics and Political Science shortly after. I took up tutoring IB maths for 2 years whilst at University. After I finished my degree, I took up tutoring students up to GCSE level in both mathematics and science. I've honed my tuition approach throughout these experiences working with a vast range of students and including working with students with various SEN needs. I want to continue to help students better understand their subjects and achieve better results. Teaching and tutoring have always interested me as I enjoy passing down the knowledge I have cultivated through many years of studying, as well as helping the next generation strive to achieve their potential.

I like to approach tutoring in an easily adaptable and amendable method. Before any classes are taken, I would like to know the student's motivation and reasoning for taking lessons, what they expect to get, what exactly they would like to cover, and any other relevant information. Afterwards, I like to set up a rough estimate of how long it would take to achieve the desired goal, and in what order will the subjects discussed go, all whilst keeping the student involved in case they would like to amend the schedule. As for when classes start, I like to start with providing the relevant theory to the student, along with all the necessary explanations, examples, and tricks that may come in handy. Then, I like to solve some problems with the student, where we work together to solve whatever problem we currently are facing. Afterwards, I like to set the student some classwork to gauge their level of understanding. Based on that, I decide whether or not the topic needs further explanation, and if so, what points need that; where are the student's weak points? Towards the end of a class, I would like to leave the student with some revision or reading to do in their own time, given that they actually want that, which would be checked on at the beginning of the upcoming class. Moreover, at the start of each new class, I like to give the student a chance to change up the schedule; is there a particular topic you want to cover in this class? Is there an upcoming examination you want to cover the relevant material for? Did you come across something and want to work on it in class to better understand it? This approach allows the student to be more interactive, and change up the long-term plan on the go, based on their short-term needs, and helps the student get a more personalised style of class, where they get to cover what they actually want to cover instead of following a rigid plan that does not allow for further exploration of topics they find important or interesting.
